MyEHS Guide: Malaysia's Environmentally Hazardous Substances System

MyEHS is the Department of Environment's (DOE) online registration system for manufacturing, importing, or exporting environmentally hazardous substances in Malaysia — a separate framework from DOSH's CLASS 2013, covering chemicals listed under the Rotterdam, Stockholm, and Minamata Conventions.

What Is MyEHS?

MyEHS (launched 5 September 2023) is the Department of Environment's revamp of the older EHSNR system. It requires importers, exporters and manufacturers of environmentally hazardous substances — chemicals listed under the Rotterdam Convention (Annex III), Stockholm Convention (Annexes A, B, C), the Minamata Convention on mercury, and the EU PIC Regulation — to register and notify DOE before importing, exporting, or manufacturing them. Import/export under Customs Orders must be registered in advance, with review letters typically processed within 21 working days. If you're also filing an annual chemical inventory, see our CIMS Reporting Guide, or return to the Malaysia compliance hub.

Who Must Register on MyEHS

Manufacturers

Producing a chemical on the EHS Reference List in Malaysia requires MyEHS registration before you can lawfully manufacture it.

Importers

Bringing a listed substance into Malaysia under a Customs Order requires advance MyEHS registration before the shipment clears.

Exporters

Shipping a listed substance out of Malaysia requires the same MyEHS notification and registration as import, in advance of export.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does every chemical need MyEHS registration?

No — only substances on DOE's EHS Reference List, which covers chemicals under the Rotterdam, Stockholm, and Minamata Conventions and the EU PIC Regulation. Most everyday industrial chemicals fall under CLASS 2013 instead.

What do I need to register on MyEHS?

A valid ROC (Companies Commission of Malaysia) company registration number is required before you can create a MyEHS account and register your substances.

How long does MyEHS approval take?

DOE's review letters are typically processed within 21 working days, so factor this into your import or export timeline.

Do I still need an SDS if my chemical is on MyEHS?

Yes. MyEHS registration doesn't replace your CLASS 2013 obligations — if the substance is also supplied for workplace use, you still need a compliant bilingual SDS.

Where do I check if my chemical is on the EHS Reference List?

DOE publishes the current EHS Reference List on the MyEHS portal (myehs.doe.gov.my). If you're unsure, we can help flag which of your products may be affected during your Free SDS Assessment.
